President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo affirmed his commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and transparent electoral process for the 2024 general elections in his Founders’ Day address.
He emphasized that the elections will be driven by the will of the Ghanaian people, not by any candidate or political party.
Akufo-Addo stressed the importance of maintaining electoral integrity and announced that the law against vigilantism would be enforced rigorously.
“The law against vigilantism will be strictly applied without fear or favour, ensuring that peace and order are maintained throughout the electoral period,” he said.
His assurance is part of broader efforts to sustain Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of African democracy.
Reflecting on Ghana’s historical milestones, Akufo-Addo underscored the collective efforts of various leaders and movements that contributed to the nation’s independence.
He highlighted the role of the Aborigines Rights Protection Society and the United Gold Coast Convention in shaping Ghana’s path to freedom and recognized Kwame Nkrumah’s significant contributions.
The President urged Ghanaians to honour their forebears’ sacrifices by committing to the values of freedom, justice, and democracy. He called for a unified and prosperous Ghana where citizens benefit from national progress.
As the 2024 elections approach, Akufo-Addo’s address sought to reinforce public confidence in the electoral process and ensure that the upcoming elections reflect the people’s valid will, free from intimidation and violence.
