In his 2024 Founders’ Day broadcast, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo challenges the notion that Ghana has a singular founder.
In his address on Saturday, August 3, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the collective efforts of multiple contributors to Ghana’s independence, rejecting claims that Dr Kwame Nkrumah alone founded the nation.
He referenced Parliament’s 2019 legislation, which designated August 4 as FounderParliament’shonour the collective contributions of independence Founders. Under the same law, September 21 remains Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day.
President Akufo-Addo’s remarks underscored a commitment to acknowledging Akufo-Addo’s Contributions to various individuals and groups in Ghana’s struggle for independence.
