Former Information Minister Dora Akunyili has urged other Nigerian leaders to emulate the leadership qualities of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Akunyili made the call in an interview on Tuesday in Abeokuta on the sideline of the launch of a book written by Obasanjo titled “The President Explained“ which was, however, postponed.
She described Obasanjo as “a special man and a man after God?s heart“.
Akunyili, recalled how the former president used his wisdom to work for the unity and peace of the country.
The ex-NAFDAC boss said that it was important for other leaders to emulate Obasanjo by striving for peace, unity and progress of the country. I want to say that Baba is a man after God?s heart; he?s a special man, no matter what anybody feels about him, he?s somebody that seems to have hundred lives.
??He?s always bounty even at his age. Baba is his intelligent, acutely intelligent and at the same time very strict man, his memory is also very remarkable, he hardly forgets anything even though when you talk sometimes he pretends not see you or hear you his listened.
??And because of his smartness, he decided to do what he did with the radio programme that has brought us here. Because he realizes that there is a lot of bureaucracy in people getting to leaders like Governors, Local Government Chairmen and Presidents.
He knows that the masses listen to radio a lot and that the best way for him to talk to people and the people will listen to him and ask question directly is to talk through the radio, he capitalized on it, used it effectively such that people in the village were able to challenge him on issue.
??There were mistakes here and there where he was very anxious to set targets, but the important thing is that this man loves Nigeria passionately.??
Akunyilli advised leaders not to shy away from discussing issues of diversity, adding that it was only by discussing such issues that the problems of the country could be addressed so that others would not feel marginalised.
