A group of 20 al-Shabab militants stormed a house in Kenya’s northeastern county of Garissa, which borders Somalia, early Friday and abducted a local man, the police said.

The victim, identified as Daud Bashir Gure, was abducted from his house at around 5 a.m. and taken to neighboring Somalia.

The militants believed Gure, who is the brother of a local government official, has been providing information about the militants’ operations in the border region to authorities, police said.

Somalia-based militants have been abducting civilians and targeting military and police vehicles in Kenya’s northeast region, especially in Mandera and Garissa counties. Enditem
