Carlos Alcaraz delivered a commanding performance to defeat Novak Djokovic and successfully defend his men’s singles title at Wimbledon.
In a rematch of last year’s final, Alcaraz showcased his superiority from the outset, leaving Djokovic struggling to mount a challenge throughout the match. Despite momentarily faltering while serving for the championship, Alcaraz regained composure to secure a 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) victory.
“Winning this trophy is honestly a dream come true for me,” expressed Alcaraz, who received the trophy from the Princess of Wales. “I remember saying in an interview when I was 11 that my dream is to win Wimbledon.”
Despite the defeat, Djokovic displayed remarkable sportsmanship. He shared a smile with Alcaraz and warmly embraced him at the net, showing respect for his opponent’s victory.
This year, Djokovic attempted to equal Roger Federer’s eight Wimbledon titles and surpass Margaret Court’s record for the most Grand Slam singles titles.
The victory extended Alcaraz’s perfect record in Grand Slam finals. It established him as the youngest man to win Wimbledon and the French Open in the same year.
Later in the day, Alcaraz celebrated Spain’s Euro 2024 final triumph over England, culminating in a memorable day for him and his country.
