The 2022 Ghana Football Awards ended in grand style as Strassburg star Alexander Djiku, adjudged the Player of the Year with Asante Kotoko also grabbing five awards.

The event, which was held at the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday saw many footballers, dignitaries, football administrators grace the occasion.

The defender was solid for his side in the 2021/22 league season and also helped Ghana to book a qualification to the 2022 Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) World Cup tournament in Qatar.

The Ghanaian defender made his debut with the senior national team of Ghana in a 3-0 friendly loss to Mali in 2020.

Having missed the last African Cup of Nations qualifiers in May and the Kirin tournament in Japan, Djiku remains one of the top defenders the Black Stars team.

Djiku managed to score one goal in 31 appearances for his side of which his scissor kick goal against Monaco in the French league 1 was voted as Strasbourg’s goal of the season.

Having dominated the Ghana Premier League last season, Asante Kotoko swept away five awards at the Ghana Football Awards after winning the GPL title for the first time since 2014.

The Chief Executive Officer of the club, Nana Yaw Amponsah won the Chief Executive Officer of the year award, Asante Kotoko won the Male Team of the Year award and the Most Vibrant Club on Social Media award.

Head Coach for the side, Dr Prosper Ogum also won the Men’s Coach of the year award in his first season whiles Tertiary Pocupine also took home the Special Fans of the year award.

Also, Sadio Mane who plays for Senegal also won the Best African International of the year award having won the African Cup of Nations, the English Premier League and the FA Cup title, bagging 23 goals for Liverpool last season.

The forward, who recently signed for German based club, Bayern Munich would be looking forward to lead Senegal to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Joe Nana Adarkwah, head coach of Ampem Darkoa Ladies who won the double this season as Champions of the 2021/22 Women’s Premier League and the 2021/22 Women’s FA Cup was also named as the Women’s Coach of the year.

Ampem Darkoa Ladies also won the Women’s Team of the Year award as they were able to end the unbeaten premier league run of Hasaacas Ladies and also schooling them for the second time in the finals of the MTN FA Cup.

Former Ampem Darkoa Ladies defender and player of Real Betis, Grace Asantewaa also won the Female Footballer of the Year award having had a great season for Real Betis.
