North Tongu lawmaker Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has reported that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has initiated investigations into his allegations regarding the contract awarded to Service Ghana Auto Group Limited (SGAGL) for the after-sales service and maintenance of 307 ambulances.

During an interview on TV3’s Key Points, Ablakwa stated that the OSP had dispatched a team of investigators to his office to gather details and documents related to his claims.

He emphasized having evidence of payments made to SGAGL amounting to approximately $108 million despite rebuttals suggesting otherwise.

In response to Ablakwa’s allegations, SGAGL released a statement refuting any claims of inflated costs in their contract.

They clarified that the procurement process involved a competitive bidding process among a consortium of seven companies initiated by the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives in 2018.

The company also addressed discrepancies highlighted in a 2022 Auditor General Performance Audit, asserting their compliance with tender requirements and commitment to transparent dealings.

The controversy erupted when Ablakwa accused the government and SGAGL of engaging in a financially dubious deal, including allegations of overpriced spare parts procurement.

The matter has since escalated with legal threats from SGAGL against parties disseminating allegedly false information.

As investigations proceed, the situation surrounding the SGAGL contract for ambulance maintenance remains contentious, reflecting broader concerns over transparency and accountability in public procurement processes.
