About Arula

Arula was born on 23rd of December 2008.  A few days later he was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome.  The congenital heart disease required a three stage surgery at ages 1 week, 6 months and 5 years.  It could not be done in Ghana due mainly to lack of funds.  Neither was there a Paediatric cardiac surgical team and a Paediatric cardiac centre.  He lived for only 25 days because of the severity of his condition.  The name Arula meaning ‘survivor’ in the Yoruba language.

About Arula Memorial Heart Foundation

Arula Memorial Heart Foundation was registered in 2009 to help create awareness about congenital heart disease in Ghana and to help raise funds to support children with similar conditions.  Every year, about 1 in 100 children are born with Congenital Heart Disease in Ghana.

Our Vision

“To build a children’s heart centre and to save as many children with congenital heart disease as possible and at the same time bring back the smiles on the faces of these children and their families.”

Our Mission

“To ensure that every child with congenital heart disease in Ghana is cared for in an environment that does not discriminate against them because of affordability using a multifaceted approach.”

We have sent five children to USA for surgery  and we have 3 more awaiting support through a number of fundraising products to help with the projects; including Arula song and Poem, t-shirts, and financial contributions.
