Angola records at least 18 deaths on New Year’s Eve


At least 18 deaths from various causes were recorded during New Year’s Eve in Angola, local media Jornal de Angola reported on Monday, citing a source from the National Police of Angola.

Of these deaths, five were due to voluntary homicide, five were from traffic accidents, and the fire department reported another eight deaths due to drownings, building collapses, and other reasons.

According to the Angola Press Agency, Orlando Bernardo, the director of Public Security and Operations of the General Command of the National Police, said on Monday afternoon that Angola recorded 154 crimes in the last 24 hours, three less than in the previous New Year’s Eve.

Among these incidents were five homicides, 30 robberies, 37 offenses against physical integrity, and 49 thefts, with a total of 117 people detained.
