The Association of Private Detectives in Ghana has expressed its dissatisfaction in the way and manner in which Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger Eye Team are undermining the nature of their work, and consequently causing immense detriments to the profession.

According to the Association, the way Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his team carries out their work as Private Investigators is unprofessional.

In a press release signed by Kwabena Twum and copied to Newsghana.com.gh, the Association is asking that, “Is Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger Eye Team, a Private Investigative organized body, enshrined under the code of ethics of Private Investigators in Ghana? Or is he just an investigative journalist acting in the name of Private Investigators in Ghana.”

“Our core mandate as an Association is to support and encourage every Private Investigator and/or Investigative Agency in Ghana, to contribute their quota to the development of the nation. We acknowledge Anas Aremeyaw Anas’s achievements and contributions to the nation, Ghana, and we revere him for these accomplishments.

However, we also seek to clarify certain practices and methods which we are unaccustomed to, and which do not conform to the Code of Ethics and the manner in which we carry out our duties as Private Investigators,” the release emphasised.

The release also said, “We would like to affirm our deepest belief that, Anas Aremeyaw Anas is still an investigative journalist, supposedly part of the Ghana Journalists Association; we hereby stand to be corrected if he is not, and thus carries out his activities in the manner which best suits his peculiar style of undercover investigative journalism.

Some of his methods include the famous covering of his face and the secret nature of his company’s address. Additionally, the method he uses in carrying out his investigations does not conform to the regular practices of Private Investigators in Ghana. It is our resolve to insist that, he performs those duties under the auspices of Journalism and not Private investigation.

Another major concern is how his company is registered as a Private Investigative Agency, even after the company has been involved in the practices of what we may describe as investigate journalism. Notable amongst these practices are his “expose’s” which, he supposedly carries out for media and public consumption. As an Association, we do not agree to and conform to such practices.”

The Association also stated clearly that, under Private Investigation, there isn’t any prescribed job as an Exposé, even on the Tiger Eye PI website there is no mention of such aforementioned services in their long list of services. “We are a professional body and our completed undertakings are solely the property of our Clients, but the practices that Tiger Eye engages in, such as labelling of hard evidence as exposés in their company’s name, producing documentaries out of them for media and public consumption, are not of our nature and we seek to distance ourselves from that.”

The Association however, assured their desired clients that, those were not the ways of Private Investigators in Ghana and that, their confidentiality and privacy is always their utmost priority and under no circumstances will we conform to such unprofessional practices.

“We like to encourage the general public and interested companies to boldly walk into our offices, or visit our websites or contact us for any of our services,” the release reiterated.
