Following the controversial statement issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), after announcing the winner of the just concluded House of Assembly election in Bayelsa State, the leadership of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA),on Tuesday, petitioned the Chairman of INEC over their decision to upturn the verdict of its Presiding Officer on the victory of the Party’s candidate,Alfred Belemote Watson, in the rescheduled election in Brass Constituency 2 of the State.

According to APGA, though the people of the Brass Constituency 2 have vowed to defend the outcome of the June 6 (Rescheduled State Assembly) election won by the party, the decision by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State to bow to pressure and compromise by upturning the peoples’ choice, is fraudulent, criminal and a threat to the peace of the Brass area of the State.

Speaking with newsmen on the development, the Manager of the Alfred Watson Campaign Organisation, Chief Felix SeiriBapaganyo, said the claim by the INEC in Bayelsa State that the result of the rescheduled Assembly election was declared under duress and inconclusive is untrue and a calculated attempt to thwart the will of the people.

According to Bapaganyo,” election was conducted in the area.It was the freest and violent-free election in the area.It was one vote and one man.The election followed the required provision of the law.The result of the election was declared in the presence of the people and security operatives including a huge number of armed soldiers and Police.”

“This is democracy and we want the INEC to allow the people to vote.Imposition of candidates must stop in Bayelsa and the will of the people must prevail”, he stated.

In his general assessment of the conduct of the election,Chief Felix Bapaganyo, noted that though the elections in the Odioma area was marred by alleged hijack and failures of card readers,it was cancelled and most of the candidates including the APGA lost some votes,”even at that, the case of the conduct of Brass constituency 3 is a clear example in which results from 2 wards were used to declare PDP winner.”
