Apostle Daniel Nii Tetteh Tackie, Winneba Area Head of the Church of Pentecost, has called on stakeholders in the forth-coming elections to embrace peace before, during and after the elections for tranquillity to prevail in the country.
He made the call at the 2024 Agent of Peace Campaign Launch initiated by the Church of Pentecost Winneba Area.
According to him, “The Agent of Peace” campaign was designed by the Church to sensitise the public, particularly Christians, during the election year to be agents and ambassadors of peace before, during and after the polls.
“As the various political parties move round the length and breadth of the country with their policies and what they can do when given the mandate to administer the affairs of the nation, we the church of Pentecost are of the conviction that in the interest of peace, there must be political tolerance on divergent views, without resorting to verbal attacks, abuses or physical violence or conflict,” he stated.
He appealed to the Electoral Commission to rectify concerns that have been raised to ensure that after the election there would be no issues and Ghana would continue to enjoy its peace.
The Area Head said political tolerance was essential in any democracy, saying, to enhance tolerance for a stable and peaceful society, the whole society had a role to play, particularly the ruling government.
“The minority must also play their role as a shadow government in a constructive manner at keeping the government on its toes in the national interest by always constructively criticising and scrutinising government policies and programmes,” he said.
He appealed to the media to be circumspect in their reportage for the sustenance of the peace of the country, saying it was about time the media desist from allowing their mediums to be used to propagate fake messages to disturb the peace of the nation.
At the launch were members of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, President of Effutu Local Council of Churches, Effutu Electoral Officer, National Commission on Civic Education and the Security Services.
Others were the National Democratic Congress Parliamentary Candidate, Dr James Kofi Annan and a representative of New Patriotic Party’s Member of Parliament, Mr Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Paramount Chief of Gomoa Akyempim Tradional Area and a representative of Effutu Paramount Chief.
In their speeches, they assured to contribute their quota to ensure peace before, during and after the election in the two traditional areas.
They later joined Apostle Tetteh Tackie to inaugurate the campaign and prayed for the areas and the country as a whole.
