Appolonia City has initiated refurbishment work on the 6.5-kilometre Oyibi Junction to Appolonia Road, aiming to enhance connectivity for residents and businesses in the Greater Accra Region.
The project, which addresses longstanding concerns over the route’s condition, is expected to reduce travel time between Oyibi Junction and Appolonia City to approximately three minutes while improving safety and reliability.
The road serves as a critical link for communities including Oyibi, Appolonia, and Bonaparte, and its upgrade forms part of broader efforts to bolster infrastructure in the area. Construction supervisor Nana Danquah emphasized the project’s alignment with sustainable urban growth, stating, “Reliable road networks are vital for economic activity, safety, and quality of life.” He noted the initiative complements government work on the nearby Adenta-Dodowa road, reflecting a collaborative approach to regional development.
Work on the route includes grading, compaction, and surfacing to ensure all-weather durability. Local residents have welcomed the initiative, anticipating eased commutes and improved access to services.
Appolonia City, a master-planned urban development, continues to expand its integrated infrastructure, offering residential, commercial, and industrial spaces designed to support community growth. The road upgrade underscores a growing trend among Ghanaian urban developments to prioritize localized infrastructure investments, particularly as Accra’s outskirts experience rapid population expansion. Such projects highlight the balance between private-sector initiatives and public infrastructure goals in fostering sustainable urbanization.
