Maternal mortality cases in the Lower West Akim constituency of the Eastern Region are set to reduce as the Honourable Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Gifty Klenam, have provided an ultra-modern ante natal centre to the Asamankese Government Hospital.
This gesture which has been widely hailed by staff of the hospital and the constituents is expected to go a long way in improving the health care of beneficiaries of the facility especially pregnant women.
The newly constructed health care centre boasts of a modernised state of the art laboratory, wards, store rooms, toilet and bath facilities among others.
Antenatal care also known as Pre-natal care refers to the regular medical and nursing care recommended for women during pregnancy. Its importance is crucial to the mother and the unborn baby as diseases which can affect the mother and the child are identified early to avoid complications. A woman?s health and behaviours in pregnancy go a long way in affecting the baby. These behaviours including poor diet, smoking, intake of alcohol, certain drugs and severe illnesses can hold back the baby?s development. Hence during pregnancy, women should not only take good care of their health but also go for regular check-ups.
These check-ups since the inception of the Asamankese Hospital, has eluded residents leading to high maternal cases in the health facility.
At the commissioning of the facility last Thursday, Madam Gifty Klenam expressed the hope that her constituents will make better use of the facility to enable it have a long life span.
She also noted that the health of her constituents remained her number one priority since ?a healthy nation is a nation which thrives with development.?
Madam Klenam who is rumoured to be facing stiff competition from several contenders to her parliamentary seat also expressed hope that staff of the hospital will make judicious use of the facility to ensure it serves its purpose for residents and generations unborn.
Speakers at the function including the Chief and Queen mothers of the area as well as the Municipal Chief for the area and the Hospital Administrator were full of praise for the MP?s kind gesture.
