Kumasi Asante Kotoko has terminated the contract of head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum following a string of poor results in the Ghana Premier League.

The decision comes after the club’s recent 2-0 defeat to Nations FC, marking their third consecutive match without a win.

Ogum, who previously guided the Porcupine Warriors to league success in the 2021/22 season, returned for a second stint in July 2023 but failed to replicate his earlier achievements. The club currently trails league leaders Bibiani Goldstars by six points with six matches remaining, effectively ending their title hopes.

In an official statement released Saturday, the club acknowledged the mutual nature of the separation: “This decision was reached following constructive discussions between both parties, with a shared understanding that it is in the best interest of the club at this time.” Management expressed gratitude for Ogum’s service while urging supporters to remain patient during the transition period.

The dismissal highlights the intense pressure at Ghana’s most successful club, where trophy expectations remain perennial. Kotoko’s recent form – just two wins in their last seven matches – proved unacceptable for a side that has invested heavily in squad reinforcement this season.

Technical director David Ocloo is expected to take temporary charge as the club begins its search for a permanent replacement. Potential candidates include former coaches who understand the club’s culture, though some analysts suggest Kotoko may look abroad for fresh ideas.

With continental qualification still mathematically possible, the coming weeks will test the squad’s resilience amid this leadership change. The club’s hierarchy faces mounting scrutiny to appoint a manager capable of restoring Kotoko’s dominance in Ghanaian football.
