The Ashanti Regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. F.F. Anto has told Citi News the Regional Minister?s investigations into headmasters allegedly promoting the NPP?s free SHS policy is an attempt by the ruling party to sabotage the policy.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Kwaku Agyemang Mensah, has alleged some head teachers in the region are demanding full payment for school fees before admitting students; telling parents who cannot afford, to vote for Nana Addo for the implementation of the free SHS policy.

Mr. Anto in an interview with Citi News stated that the NDC is startled by the impact the free SHS campaign promise is making in the region, and is doing its possible best to disrupt it, including accusing heads of schools saying, ?they know the free Senior High School being proposed by Nana Addo is catching on and they are all desperate.?

He said: ?From time immemorial, headmasters have been demanding full payment so it?s not just under the Mahama administration that headmasters are talking about full payment. I mean what is he talking about? So headmasters should not demand full payment? How many parents go to headmasters when they are going to pay fees? They go to the accounts departments so if the Regional Minister is saying this, then I am surprised.?

According to him, ?when Mahama went to the North and asked them what they wanted, they said they wanted free Senior High School education so they are afraid.?

Meanwhile, the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) in the Ashanti Region has welcomed the investigations by the Ashanti Regional Minister.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti Regional branch of CHASS, Peter Anarfi told Citi News, ?I know for a fact that Heads of Institutions are going by the policy guidelines on the collection of fees and that is what we are employing now in the collection of our fees. The position of CHASS is that, CHASS is a non partisan body and we form the base of the managerial structure of GES and therefore for a whole CHASS member to come out and openly to propagate the ideals of a political party is quite dangerous.?

?So we are going to throw our support behind any investigation that is going to be conducted,? he added.
