Ashesi University has awarded Yamoah Frimpong Attafuah, the second son of Professor Kenneth Attafuah, the prestigious Presidential Award for Scholarship, Leadership, and Citizenship.

 

This recognition, given at Ashesi’s twentieth commencement ceremony on August 24, 2024, highlights his exceptional contributions and alignment with the university’s core values.

 

Yamoah Frimpong Attafuah graduated summa cum laude in Computer Engineering, also receiving the Technical Excellence Award. His academic excellence and impactful leadership were celebrated during the graduation ceremony held at the Archer Cornfield Courtyard.

 

Citation Highlights:

 

The citation praised Yamoah as an exemplary student who embodies Ashesi’s ideals. He was recognized for his significant contributions as an “action-oriented scholar,” a “gracious servant leader,” and an “optimistic citizen.” Notably, Yamoah volunteered on the Academic Committee of the Ashesi Student Council and played a vital role in developing a guide to improve Schneider Electric’s use of Large Language Models while participating in the Applied Methods and Research Experience (AMRE) program at the College of Wooster in Ohio.

 

He was also part of a team that created a device to assist the blind and visually impaired in interpreting bar graphs and performing simple computations.

 

In 2021, his peers honoured him with the “Star Image Award”,” reflecting their recognition of his potential and contributions.

 

Father’s Tribute:

 

Professor Kenneth Attafuah, in a heartfelt Facebook post, expressed immense pride in his son’s achievements.

 

He reflected on Yamoah’s journey from a young child fascinated by computer games to a distinguished scholar and leader.

 

Professor Attafuah highlighted the values of grit, perseverance, and reliance on God as keys to Yamoah’s success.

 

He deeply thanks Ashesi University, its faculty, and the community for supporting Yamoah’s academic journey.

 

“For us as a family, our joy is boundless, Professor Attafuah wrote.

 

“We thank God and all our families and friends for their love and support during Wofa’s four-year journey at Ashesi.”

 

The award underscores Ashesi University’s commitment to nurturing leaders who excel academically and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
