Head Coach of Ghana Premier League side AshantiGold SC, Thomas Duah has backed the suspended 2019-20 season be cancelled.
The season has been suspended due to the CoronaVirus pandemic. The Ghana FA in March took a decision conformable to government’s directive to ban all manner of public /social gatherings in a bid to curtail the spread of corona virus.
With hopes of an imminent resumption dashed following the government’s decision to not ease all restrictions at a go, pressure has been mounting on the GFA to swiftly decide the fate of the football season.
Among football connoisseurs, opinions widely differ with some opting for a cancellation while others believe holding on and deciding later when situations normalise is the best.
Thomas Duah, a former player of AshGold shared his stance in an interview with Kumasi based Oyerepa FM, “I don’t see why we should continue with the league looking at the time left for us.
“You go to Belgium, Holland and France they have all ended their leagues , they are more advanced than us but what did they do.
The advocates of the league continuing have backed their stance with the option of playing behind closed doors”.
Duah has once again shot that down suggesting that such an option lacks plausibility.
“Some are suggesting playing behind closed doors that I disagree because we can’t do without the supporters, that’s not us, it can’t work,” he concluded.
AshantiGold SC were were at the fifth position on the league with 25 points from 15 games before it was suspended.
