Members of the Berekum Municipal Assembly on Wednesday boycotted sittings following the refusal of the assembly to pay the ex-gratia of past members.

Ghana CediAccording to them, they are expected to receive an amount GHC 1500 each as end of service benefits but have been given only GHC 500 each. The agrieved members also accused the Municipal Chief Executive of Berekum, Hon. Opuku Boakye Yeadon, of ordering the police to molest them for fighting for their rights.

However, in explaining the issue to, the MCE said he only invited the police to the meeting place to ensure peace and order as some members wanted to go contrary to the layed down rules and procedures. “l had no intention of stepping on the rights of the members, ” he stated.

Touching on the money issus, the MCE explained that getting money from the Internally Generated Funds (IGF) of the Assembly was such a difficult task hence the delay in payment of the full amount.

He however stated that measures are being put in place to ensure that each member recieves the balance of GHC 1000 before or by the end of the second quarter of this year.

A total of 65 members are expected to receive this amount for their meritorious service to the assembly over the years.
