Mr Yakubu Fuseini Batong, the Sissala East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) has urged Departments heads and Assembly Members to participate in activities of all the assembly’s Urban and Zonal Councils Committee meetings for consensus building.
This, he said, would help provide the assembly with the appropriate advice and expertise to help offer the needed support and improve on the issues in various areas and departments as well as achieving the needed development in the municipality.
Mr Batong made the remark during the Sissala East sessional engagement with Assembly Members and Heads of Departments in Tumu.
Mr Batong expressed worry over what he described as the low level of participation and less activeness of some Urban and Zonal Councils, which are to serve as platforms for participation by the people within the assembly.
He said Heads of Department should take the work of the subcommittee of the assembly seriously by attending their meetings in person and offering their expert advice on issues concerning their department.
He stated that: “Some of the Councils hardly meet and even in situations where meetings are held, quarterly reports and minutes are not submitted to the assembly for coordination of activities at the council level whilst the MCE is not usually invited.”
Mr Batong also appealed to the residents and traditional authorities to embrace peace and to assist the Security Agencies with relevant information on suspected terrorist activities, adding that the municipality shares boundaries with Burkina Faso, and because of reported presence of terrorists in that country pose danger to the area.
He commended the Heads of Departments, including the Sissala East Municipal Health Directorate, for their efforts in the improvement of healthcare service delivery and urged the other departments to do more.
Mr Sumaila Doho, the Presiding Member of the Assembly appealed to the Assembly Members to also acknowledge and aid members who represent the Sissala East Assembly at workshops to make them comfortable and to ensure proper recording of all minutes at meetings.
