Relegation candidate Aston Villa suffered a 3-1 defeat at Sunderland in the absence of Ghana striker Jordan Ayew.

Ayew was suspended for the clash due to yellow card accumulation and watched in agony as Villa suffered yet another morale-dampening defeat at the Stadium of Light.

The Villans are firmly rooted at the bottom of the table with a paltry eight points from 20 games and does not appear they will get out of the woods.

It’s been turbulent for Remi Garde’s men this season with Jordan Ayew emerging as the brightest spot in the team in recent times.

The Ghana international had scored 5 of Villas’ seven goals in the lead up to the clash against the Black Cats.

Ayew is expected to return to the team ahead of Tuesday’s crucial meeting against Crystal Palace at home.
