At least ten non-governmental organization (NGO) workers were kidnapped by armed militants on Wednesday afternoon in the commune of Makalondi in southwest Niger, close to the border with Burkina Faso, a security source said on Thursday.

Two vehicles belonging to the NGO were also taken by the militants during the attack, while this NGO was distributing food to local people, said the same source, who did not specify the nationality of the abductees. Niger suffers on several fronts from the deadly assaults of terrorist organizations.

For more than two years, the “three borders” region (Niger-Mali-Burkina Faso) has been plagued by other jihadist groups.
