At least 30 gunmen were killed when the Nigerian military conducted airstrikes around a large forest which served as a hideout for them in the northwestern state of Zamfara, an official said on Wednesday.
A series of airstrikes by the military on Tuesday also destroyed the gunmen’s logistics storehouse in Doumborou Forest of Zamfara, said John Enenche, a spokesman for the Nigerian military.
Enenche said a thatched structure within the forest was being used by the gunmen to store their logistics, as credible intelligence by the military revealed ahead of the operation.
An attack helicopter engaged for the operation scored accurate hits resulting in the destruction of the storehouse, which was seen engulfed in flames, said the military spokesman.
A follow-up attack trailed some fleeing gunmen to another location and neutralized them, Enenche added. Enditem
