At least two people were killed and seven others injured Wednesday in inter-clan clashes on the outskirts of Beledweyne town in the central region of Hiran, a military officer confirmed.

Mohamed Ibrahim, commander of Somali National Army (SNA) Unit 39th division, told journalists that a fierce fight erupted between two Somali clans in Haradey neighborhood causing deaths and injuries.

“The fight over land disputes erupted at dawn, we can confirm two people were killed and seven others injured and the casualties could rise as the clashes are still going on,” Ibrahim said.

He added that regional authorities and military forces will reach the area to stabilize the situation.

Local residents told Xinhua a fierce fight happened in the town.

“Two militias are fighting in the town. They are exchanging heavy weapons, many locals have started to flee the town,” local resident Hinda Adar told Xinhua by phone. Enditem
