Atwima-Nwabiagya: More Young People Take Up Cocoa Growing

More young people in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District are increasingly drifting into cocoa growing, to help improve their living conditions.


To enable them take advantage of the government’s interventions – free distribution of seedlings and inputs supply, they have come together, to form an association, called “Nokroy”.

Inaugurating the association at a ceremony held in Nkawie, Mr. Kingsley Owusu, the District Cocoa Officer, said farming was rewarding and encouraged the youth to go into it.

He applauded the group for the bold decision and said they were never going to regret.

He advised them to work closely with the extension officers to learn best practices to boost crop yield and returns.

Mr. Owusu invited other unemployed youth to venture into agriculture to assure them of sustainable income to take care of themselves and their families.

He promised them of continued government support to expand their farms and raise cocoa production.

He announced that a total of 1.2 million cocoa seedlings had been distributed to farmers in the district.

Mr. Justice Amankwah, the leader of the group, said they were determined to work hard to substantially raise the cocoa production level in the area
