African Union (AU) Commissioner for Trade and Industry Albert Muchanga, a Zambian national, was on Wednesday awarded for championing the establishment of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Muchanga was recognized with the Champion of Trade Award for his leadership in championing the establishment of AfCFTA, which will create a large single market.

Emmanuel Mwamba, Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the AU and Ambassador to Ethiopia, said in a release that the government was pleased to see nationals succeeding and representing the country well in regional and international organizations.

He said Zambians working in regional and international organizations should strive to protect the country’s good image and fly the country’s flag high in all endeavors.

The Zambian envoy said the success of the AfCFTA was the success for the entire continent because the benefits that include creation of employment, reduction in cost of doing business and production of quality products, among others, will benefit all Africans.

Muchanga thanked the country and Africa as a whole for the support rendered to him in making the AfCFTA a reality.

He urged the Zambian government to ratify the protocol to ensure that the country is not left out in terms of benefits which will accrue to state parties. Enditem
