AU to deploy election observers to Egypt 2015 parliamentary elections

The African Union (AU) has decided to deploy election observation mission in Egypt for parliamentary elections scheduled to take place in October and November this year.

Following an invitation from Egyptian authorities, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Chairperson of the AU Commission, has approved the deployment of 40 short-term election observers to the upcoming parliamentary elections in Egypt

scheduled to take place in two phases: from 18-19 Oct. and 22-23 Nov. 2015, according to an AU statement released on Thursday.

Led by Amos Sawyer, former Interim President of the Republic of Liberia, the AU election observation mission to Egypt will be deployed from 9 to 30 Oct. to cover the preparations and conduct of first round elections.

At the conclusion of first round voting on 18-19 Oct., the mission will issue a preliminary statement on its findings and observations, said the statement.

The AU will deploy an expert mission to follow up on the second round elections scheduled on 22-23 Nov. 2015, said the statement, adding, the findings of both missions will be used to issue a Final Report on elections. Enditem
