The African Union on Tuesday called on all national stakeholders of Burundi to embrace the spirit of national unity and refrain from any acts that are likely to undermine efforts to resolve the current crisis in a peaceful manner.

Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat expressed serious concern about the recent attack in Cibitoke Province, Burundi, which claimed human lives and injuries.

Mahamat strongly condemned the attack, saying it is “cowardly attack perpetrated against innocent and unarmed civilians, including women and children.”

Burundi on Monday urged the Democratic Republic of Congo to cooperate with Burundi to arrest militants who killed 26 people in northwestern Burundi. Enditem
