AUC Chairperson Receives Credentials of The New Permanent Representative of Zambia

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, February 3, 2012/African Press Organization (APO)/ — The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), H.E. Dr. Jean Ping, received in his office at the AUC Headquarters, on Thursday, the 2nd of February 2012, the credentials of the new Permanent Representative of the Republic of Zambia, H.E. Mr. Francis Zaza Simenda.

Welcoming the new Permanent Representative, the Chairperson pledged his full support and that of the entire Commission, to enable Ambassador Simenda accomplish his mission.

Dr. Ping entreated the new Zambian Ambassador to transmit his warm, brotherly regards to H.E. Mr. Michael Sata, President of the Republic of Zambia and H.E. Hon. Given Lubinda MP, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Chairperson Ping seized the opportunity to renew his congratulations to the People of Zambia for organizing exemplary elections last year and expressed the hope that other African countries would emulate Zambia’s shining democratic example.

The Chairperson further underscored the historical importance of Zambia in the sub-region and the entire Continent.

“Zambia is a big and important country in Africa. It’s place in contemporary African history, especially in the liberation struggle of many African states, is special. I would like to pay tribute to Zambia’s first President, H.E. Mr. Kenneth Kaunda, who is one of only two surviving Founding Fathers of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), for his wisdom and commitment to Africa’s total liberation, peace, unity and prosperity.

“Zambia has always been an active Member State and I am confident that with you as the new Permanent Representative, Zambia will continue to play an important and constructive role in the AU for the benefit of the Continent,” the Chairperson stated.

On his part, Ambassador Simenda thanked Chairperson Ping for his warm welcome and for honouring Zambia by appointing former President Kaunda as a distinguished Member of the AU Panel of the Wise.

With regard to Zambia’s role within the Union, the new Ambassador affirmed that Zambia will continue to play a pre-eminent role to ensure that Africa resolves its own problems, and expressed the commitment of his country to remain active in the Continent’s struggle to eradicate armed conflict, disease and poverty.

Ambassador Simenda promised to convey the Chairperson’s message to President Sata and thanked Dr. Ping for his wise leadership of the Commission.

“As far as we are concerned, you have done a good job as Chairperson of the Commission. Under your leadership, the African Union now has suitable accommodation for its Headquarters and we commend you for that,” the Zambian Diplomat stated.

Ambassador Simenda was accompanied by senior officials of the Zambian embassy, including: Mr. Pola Kimena, Minister Counsellor, Mr. Silumelume Mubukwunu, Counsellor Political, Mr. Ruben Zulu, First Secretary Economic and Ms. Dorcas Chileshe, First Secretary Press.
