A former Director General of national broadcaster, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Mr. William Ampem-Darko is calling for a forensic audit of his successor Mr. Berfi Appenten?s tenure.
Mr. Appenten was recently replaced with Retired Major Albert Don Chebe.
Mr. Ampem-Darko claimed in an interview with XYZ News on Friday May 24, 2013 that he has information that suggested that Mr. Appenten was paid a colossal amount of Ghc197, 174.28 as payment for his ?outstanding salary entitlement? for the 18 months that he spent at GBC.
He said Mr. Appenten, personally signed the cheques for the payment.
Mr. Ampem-Darko also raised questions about the national Broadcaster?s economic viability and indebtedness during Mr. Appenten?s tenure.
?It is alleged that the Corporation is owing the rights owners of the Uefa Cup Ghc666,000 and electricity bills have mounted to over Ghc300,000, so I couldn?t see the justification for an amount of Ghc200,000 being issued to the Director General on the last day of his appointment at GBC; It is a transaction that definitely calls for investigations, the fact that it happened on the last day of his appointment?, Mr. Ampem Darko said.
He added that: ??The last week before I entered GBC, similar cheques were written and it was later that we got to know that they were fictitious payments that were made?.
He has therefore sent a petition to the authorities, including the National Security outfit, urging investigations into his successor?s tenure.
