— The cities of Johannesburg and Tshwane are set to be run by minority governments as indications grow that the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have not struck a formal coalition deal.

The two parties are both due to make public announcements on Wednesday. (Business Day)

— Municipalities have until August 24 to hold their first council meeting after the August 3 elections, the ministry of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) said on Tuesday.

The clock started ticking on August 10 when the results of the local government elections were gazetted, said COGTA Minister David Van Rooyen. (News24)

— More than 70 officials are currently on suspension in all the eight metropolitan municipalities of the country.
