President Abdel Aziz, the Chairperson of the African Union (AU), on Sunday at Nouakchott in Mauritania paid tribute to the continent?s founding fathers for Africa?s unity.
Aziz, who is Mauritania?s President, in a message to mark the African Unity Day, called for integration within the continent.
He said the founding fathers? action “snatched?? the continent from colonial domination and apartheid, and gave Africa the place it occupies today.
“Our continent is hugely rich and young, with several potentialities.
“Those parameters are assets for the prosperity of our more and more efficient regional economic communities and favour the setting up of continental free trade zones, with a billion consumers.
“Food shortage, the development of agro-business, the fight against poverty and malnutrition are goals to attain for the AU, in view of the need to ensure food security and the prosperity of our African peoples??.
Aziz said his vision for Africa’s development was on the importance and strategic place of agriculture.
