Bishop John Yaw Adu, the?General Overseer of?the New?Jerusalem Chapel at Ampayo near Kumasi?has entreated? ?the citizenry?to allow?nationalism to override the interests of their?political parties.
He observed that the act of politicization of issues of national interest is?not helping the country to achieve her set?goals aimed at?propelling the desired development.
According to him, the country is polarized along political lines to the extent that every step taken by both government and the oppositions that could speed up national progress is always viewed from political perspective.
?The issue of politicization of? development? plans for the nation by our political leaders especially those from the NDC? and the NDC is doing? the country nothing profitable, it was? high these two political? parties disassociate political? sentiments? from programmes that? border on the forward? move of the nation,? he? said.
Bishop Adu?who spoke to this paper in an interview?expressed his view that,?if due diligent?were taken by?the present administration and that of its predecessor under the NPP, the current state in which the country is walloping by settling huge?judgment debts would?nt have occurred.
?Why should the taxpayers? monies? are being dolled out? to people any for no work done, whereas some rural communities lack social amenities? such as good drinking? water , classroom blocks,? health post? and? good roads to cart their farm produce to the? urban centres,? he expressed worry.
The Bishop observed that, playing political games with national issues would not?serve any interest of the country but rather draws back the quest to become a developed nation.
He called for thorough investigations into circumstances that led ??to the award of numerous contracts and their subsequent terminations that?? compelled the payment of colossal sums of money as judgment debts.
?I will be elated if a full scale investigation is launched to establish whose negligence or carelessness led to the settlement of various judgment debts for the person/s to face the law in order to serve as a deterrent to others. Heads must roll on their judgment debts? ?saga to uncover who really caused liability for the country,? he charged.
He said , it is time for persons whose hands the affairs of the country are entrusted to allow? institutions to work to perfection, ?I? don?t mean? the this government only but all those? who have stake in it to spur up? national agenda irrespective which political party is in government,?? he remarked.
Bishop Adu expressed? his disgust about? how some leading journalists? who supposed to have been playing watch dog roles ?have instead aligned? themselves? to political parties and always? tried to defend? those parties ?agenda? whether they were doing things to merit national interest or not,
?Some times I become very disturbed about? the? attitude? of some journalists who have become the mouthpieces of the two leading political parties rather than playing their watch dog roles,? he worried.
He was convinced that? both past? NPP administration and that of the? current NDC fear of being g expose by the media of their misdeeds hence their inability to pass? the Rights to Information? Bill which has gone through several readings in parliament but is yet? to be passed , ? why for a very long time they? have not ?passed the information bill, because they knew it would giver the media a license? to? expose them of the factious deals,? he added .
Bishop Adu called on all religious bodies to pray continuously for the country in the run up to the general elections? in December, ?it? is my wish that all religious groups pray? restlessly to intercede for a peaceful elections,? he requested.
