Police rescue 17 pregnant women 11 babies from illegal orphanage in Imo

The Police Command in Imo on Thursday rescued 17 pregnant women  from an orphanage, which allegedly sold their babies as soon as they were delivered.

The girls, whose ages range between 15 and 25, were rescued with 11 children during a raid by the Police Special Ambush Squad.

The orphanage, known as `Ahamefula Motherless Babies Home,? is located in Umuaka, Njaba Local Government Area and was run by a woman identified as ?Madam One Thousand.?

Briefing newsmen at the scene of the raid, the Commissioner of Police, Musa Katsina, said that the women were impregnated by two men who were also arrested.

He said that the building in which the women were accommodated was also used as a sachet water producing company to deceive the public.

A 55-year-old man from Nempi Amafor in Oru West Local Government Area, who claimed to be the security man guarding the orphanage, was also arrested.
