Badminton Association of Ghana (BAG), has opened registration for the 2022 edition of the All Ghana National Championship scheduled to take place at the Trust Emporium from July 08 to July 11.
The All Ghana National Open Championship is expected to have over 150 entries and since this would be an individual and clubs open championships, there would be events for men and women singles, as well as doubles and mixed doubles events.
The age categories for the Juniors, Seniors and masters would be divided into: U13, U15, U17, U19, U30, 30-39,40-49, 50-59,60-69, 70-79 and 80-89.
A statement issued and signed by BAG President, Evans Kojo Yeboah and copied to GNA Sports said “The 2022 National Championship is the most important selection event organised this year.
We are convinced that athletes from the various Badminton Clubs and shared interest groups in Ghana would perform on a top level and make an unforgettable show which will contribute to the growing popularization of the sport in our country.”
The statement added that “we have recently revamped our High-performance Programme with increasing global results and participation.
This has enabled us to prioritise selected players capable of achieving national glory, experience, and challenge world level opposition as part of their development in line with our Performance Programmes aiming to win African, Commonwealth, World, Paralympic and Olympic podium glory.”
There will be a direct qualification and elimination draw process, so everyone can get enough to play–for this year’s event because of the lack of tournament badminton that has been played so far in 2020 and 2021 because of COVID.
Instead, acceptances will be made using the Ghana National Rankings from March 2019, followed by a seeded position determined by the Rankings as they stand by Draw date of July 5, 2022.
The 2022 All Ghana Open National Championships would be a Grade 1 National Tournament, with the highest-ranking points under the National Ranking System.
The winner of each category would be awarded a national gold medal and crowned National Veterans Champion in their age category. The runner-up would get a silver medal while the third-place winner is awarded a bronze medal.
Clubs and affiliate Associations could enter a maximum of six male players and six female players and three pairs in each of the five events in each age category.
“During this 2022 All Ghana Open National Championships, there would be a great number of talents which will be needed on the National Junior Team towards our plan, which is also allowing for further networking, competition, opportunity to be selected into the national squad and gain educational scholarships,” the statement said.
