Jeff Bagerbaseh has won the maiden edition of the Atta Mills Memorial Tennis tournament in Accra after beating Daniel Quartey in two straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. He took home GHS4,500 for his efforts.
The six-day tournament, organised by the John Evans Atta Mills Foundation, saw participants from all over the country battle it out at the amateur and professional level.
“It is very emotional, I was the underdog, I have not been playing competitive tennis for a while, I have been in school, I had to sacrifice my game for school when I was really on top, coming back and winning this tournament is great because I had to beat the number one for this, so I can’t really explain how it feels but I give thanks to God,” Bagerbaseh told Class Sports.
