Messages are being circulated on messaging app WhatsApp indicating that the products which are meant to expire in 2017 “may contain glass”.
However, Corporate Communication and Public Affairs head for Nestlé South Africa, Motshidisi Mokwena has refuted such claims indicating that there has never been such a message from the company.
A press release issued by the company indicated that: “our products are safe for consumption and the quality and safety of our products are our top priority”.
Below is the full message:
ALLEGED RECALL OF ALL BANANA BABY FOOD EXPIRING IN 2017
Please note that Nestlé has not issued a recall of BANANA BABY FOOD or any other product. Furthermore, Nestlé South Africa does not package any of its baby food products in glass packaging.
This is an erroneous message that has been circulating on and off since 2011, following a precautionary recall in France in the same year of one batch of a specific product. Since then, the message keeps resurfacing, with variances in the message about the brand name and the expiry date.
We can assure everyone that our products are safe for consumption and the quality and safety of our products are our top priority.
