The Banda District Assembly in the Brong Ahafo region has held its first ordinary assembly meeting to deliberate on matters affecting the Assembly and to ensure the development of the District at the District Assembly Hall, Banda Ahenkro the District capital.
In his welcome address, the presiding Member of the Banda District Assembly, Mr. Sampson Manu thanked the Assembly Members for their commitment towards the work of the Assembly. The presiding Member appealed to the Assembly Members to fully participate in the deliberations of the day to ensure the development of the District.
In her address, the District Chief Executive for Banda, Madam Mary Konneh called on everybody to ensure whatever they do benefit the generality of the people in the District rather than on personal interest. She said the allegations levelled against her by the people of Dorboo that she has changed the Water and Sanitation Management team their area to inaugurate new team with a political reason and without their notice was not true.
According to the District Chief Executive, all efforts made to get Nananom representatives to join the team for the inauguration since November, 2017 was to no avail and the office is ready however ready to inaugurate Nananom representatives to join the team whenever they are ready.
Madam Mary Konneh said a committee under chair have been formed to help the fight against illegal mining at Dokokyina, MTN, Accra and Dablakro in the District to sustain their land and environment.
On education, the DCE said assembly released funds to support the conduct of mock examinations for the final year Basic Education Certificate Examination candidates in the district to get them prepared for the final examinations and also to help improve performance. She added that the Assembly is working with the Education Directorate to establish girls Model Junior High School in the District capital to enhance girl child education in the District.
Touching on roads, Madam Mary Konneh said road network in District have been improved and people can now visit the Ahenkro clinic without difficulties. According to her movement between Ahenkro- Kabrono- Sanwa-Gbao-Makala- Dompofie all made easy as a result of the improved road network.
Under the planting for Food and Jobs initiative, the DCE said the District has received 75bags of maize seeds meant for the programme and the interested farmers should conduct the Agriculture Department for the seed whilst waiting for inputs which will arrive soon. She also said the District has recorded two cases of fall army worm by two farmers, an acre each which the Agriculture Department have sprayed.
According to the DCE, the Assembly have taken delivery of two boxes of chemicals to be kept for emergency. She therefore appealed to farmers to monitor their farms and report any unusual development to the Agriculture Department for immediate action.
