Two police reservists were among five people who were killed by bandits during an attack in the northwestern Kenyan county of Baringo.

Police said the bandits also stole livestock during the Thursday morning incident.

Two other people who were injured are recuperating at a local hospital as tension escalated in the volatile region.

Edward Mwamburi, the Rift Valley regional police commander, said a team of security officers has been deployed to the hotspot.

He added security forces were pursuing the armed bandits with the aim of arresting them and recovering the stolen livestock.
