In a move to foster party cohesion, former NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed plans for an unprecedented nationwide “thank you” tour featuring all presidential primary contestants from the 2024 elections.

The initiative marks a departure from tradition where such tours were typically solo undertakings by the party’s standard bearer.

Addressing supporters at the NPP headquarters, Bawumia emphasized the critical need for unity within the party as it prepares for the 2028 general elections. “This unified approach demonstrates our collective commitment to the party’s success,” he stated, noting that previous flagbearers like Presidents Kufuor and Akufo-Addo had conducted their thank you tours independently.

The tour, scheduled to commence in the Western Region on April 26 and conclude in the Central Region on June 4, represents a strategic effort to present a consolidated front to the Ghanaian electorate. Political analysts view this as a calculated move to heal potential rifts following the competitive primaries and position the NPP as a united force against their political opponents.

Bawumia’s call for solidarity comes at a crucial juncture for the NPP, which seeks to maintain its political dominance after the 2024 elections. By including former primary opponents in this high-profile tour, the party leadership aims to demonstrate internal harmony while strategically courting diverse voter blocs across the country.

The initiative has been welcomed by party stalwarts as an innovative approach to post-primary reconciliation. As the NPP embarks on this unity tour, political observers will be watching closely to gauge its impact on grassroots mobilization and the party’s preparations for the next electoral cycle.
