Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the spokesperson for the Bawumia campaign team, has asserted that the Akufo-Addo administration has significantly enhanced the purchasing power of cocoa farmers, claiming an increase of up to 100 per cent.
At a recent press briefing, Aboagye highlighted that under the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, cocoa farmers received GH₵475 per bag of cocoa in 2016. In contrast, the current Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia administration has increased the price to GH₵3,000 per bag for the 2024 season.
The Ghanaian government recently announced a 45 percent increase in the cocoa producer price for the 2024/25 crop season.
Dr Bryan Acheampong, Minister for Food and Agriculture, detailed that this adjustment reflects a cumulative increase of 129.6 per cent from the start of the 2023/2024 season.
Dr Acheampong explained that the price of a 64kg bag of cocoa beans began at GH₵1,300 and rose to GH₵2,070 during the 2023/2024 season.
For the 2024/2025 season, the price has increased to GH₵3,000, marking a 45 percent rise from the previous season.
In a statement on his Facebook page, Aboagye emphasized the substantial improvement in cocoa farmers’ purchasing power.
He claimed that the new price allows farmers to purchase more essential goods, including construction materials and food products, compared to 2016, despite global economic challenges.
Aboagye also noted that the government’s efforts to improve public sector wages and provide critical social interventions in education, health, and livelihood empowerment reflect its commitment to enhancing the lives of Ghanaians.
He concluded by urging voters to support Dr Bawumia in the upcoming elections to continue advancing these initiatives and improving the welfare of all Ghanaians.
