Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has pledged his utmost respect and commitment to work closely with traditional authorities to tackle societal challenges, including deviant sexual behaviour.
In recent engagements with the chiefs and communities of Asuogyaman, Lower Manya, and Yilo Krobo, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the importance of preserving Ghana’s cultural values while addressing societal issues.
He outlined his commitment to reforming specific harmful practices, such as gender-based violence and harmful traditional rites, while upholding the positive aspects of traditional norms.
“Our cultural norms and beliefs have largely stood the test of time,” Dr. Bawumia said in a Facebook post. “A Bawumia Presidency will work to preserve the good while helping to reform the others.”
He reaffirmed his promise to strengthen collaboration with traditional leaders, a commitment that should reassure Ghanaians and instill confidence in his leadership, to combat societal ills, including deviant sexual behaviour.
“During engagements with the chiefs and people in the Asuogyaman, Lower Manya, and Yilo Krobo constituencies, I assured them of my future government’s dedication to working with traditional authorities to address these issues. Indeed, it is possible,” he added.
Dr Bawumia’s unwavering commitment reflects a broader strategy to integrate traditional leadership into governance efforts aimed at social reform, instilling hope and optimism in the hearts of Ghanaians.
