Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has promised further to strengthen the party’s relationship with the media, underscoring its importance as a partner in national development.
During a media interaction in Accra on Sunday, August 25, Bawumia highlighted the NPP’s historical support for the media.
“The NPP views the media as a crucial partner in national development,” he stated.
He recalled that under former President John Agyekum Kufuor, the NPP was pivotal in repealing the criminal libel law to ensure a free and robust media environment.
“In our quest to expand the frontiers of democratic governance in Ghana, the NPP under former President J.A. Kufuor repealed the criminal libel law, allowing the media to function fully.
The NPP will continue to partner with the media and ensure media freedom,” Bawumia said.
As the new leader of the NPP, Bawumia reiterated his commitment to maintaining and deepening this partnership.
“We’re partners with you, and this partnership will continue as I lead the NPP. We are committed to deepening media freedom,” he added.
