Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP), has unveiled a monumental strategy to combat unemployment. His pledge to train a staggering one million youth in digital skills is a bold and ambitious step towards a brighter future for Ghana, underscoring the scale of his commitment.
Speaking at the Ofie Mega Walk in Akropong on Saturday, August 3, 2024, an event aimed at revitalizing the party’s base and launching its campaign in the Akuapem North Constituency, Dr Bawumia emphasized job creation as his foremost priority.
His initiative aims to equip Ghanaian youth with essential digital competencies, enabling them to pursue employment opportunities globally, irrespective of university education.
Addressing the crowd, Dr Bawumia outlined his vision: “I want the youth to be employed; jobs. Jobs will be my main focus. I’ll train about one million youth in digital skills; that’s where the job opportunities are.
Even if you haven’t been to university, as long as you can read and write, we’ll train you in digital skills so that you can work in other countries while in Ghana. You’ll be in Ghana but working in America, Canada, Japan, and the UK.”
He believes this initiative will not only bridge the skills gap but also empower Ghanaian youth to compete effectively in the global digital economy.
