Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has expressed confidence that Ghanaians will again reject John Mahama in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
During a visit to the Nsawam Adoagyiri constituency, where he paid a courtesy call to local traditional authorities, Bawumia criticized Mahama’s tenure as President, describing it as marked by significant shortcomings.
Bawumia contended that the 2024 electoral race is a choice between himself and Mahama.
He criticized Mahama’s presidency for its legacy of erratic power supply, high youth unemployment, and the cancellation of teacher and nursing training allowances.
According to Bawumia, these issues had a detrimental impact on the country and should not be revisited.
In contrast, Bawumia proudly highlighted the achievements of the current NPP government, including the introduction of the free Senior High School policy, the restoration of teacher and nursing training allowances, and various developmental initiatives such as digitization, the Planting for Food and Jobs program, and the one-constituency-one-ambulance project.
Addressing the chiefs, Bawumia reiterated the NPP’s unwavering commitment to continuing its progress if elected. He outlined his policy proposals, which include further investments in agriculture, enhancing the chieftaincy institution to support the government’s development goals, job creation, and reducing electricity costs through investments in solar energy.
“The 2024 election is between myself and the former president,” Bawumia said.
“We have all witnessed the performance of the former President. During his tenure, there were challenges such as erratic power supply, difficulty obtaining school supplies, and the cancellation of training allowances. Jobs were scarce, and he admitted he could not create jobs magically.”
Bawumia recalled the previous elections, asserting that Mahama lost in 2016 and was again defeated in 2020.
He expressed his belief that with divine and public support, Mahama would be defeated once more in 2024, allowing him to continue the NPP’s work.
Since taking office, Bawumia claimed that the NPP government has made substantial progress compared to the previous administration, a stark contrast that showcases the strides made under the NPP’s leadership.
