Ghanaians and US investors living in Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri will never forget their memorable encounter with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (the Vice Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party of Ghana), at the Hilton Hotel in Arlington, Texas.
The NPP Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter welcomed Dr. Bawumia at the DFW Airport early July 14th 2012, took him and his entourage to their hotel, and had breakfast with them.
Later in the day, some Ghanaian professionals and potential US investors held a closed door meeting at an assigned conference centre at the Hilton Hotel, Arlington, Texas.
The concerns of the participants at the said meeting centered on health, energy, and ICT.
Dr. Bawumia agreed with the people’s concerns and promised to fully address them at the fundraising dinner scheduled for the evening of July 14, 2012.
The fundraising event took off in a grand style with a thunderous applause when Dr. Bawumia entered the event hall.
And as was his wont, Dr. Bawumia went around and heartily shook hands with all the invited guests and members of NPP DFW.
Dr. Bawumia and his entourage enjoyed a sumptuous dinner with the guests and Party members.
When it was his turn to deliver his message, the thunderous applause which greeted Dr. Bawumia was deafening.
He shot straight at the NDC government’s lack of transparency in dealing with corruption, their ineffective tax base, an unworkable cash-based economy, an educational system which is not tailored toward the global economy,
and a heavily centralized system which militates against the ‘Development in Freedom’ Policy of the New Patriotic Party.
“With Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo -Addo as President and I as the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, we will streamline the current tax base, decentralize the system, add value to our exports, revive the health system, promote ICT, and encourage foreign investments to create jobs for
the jobless,” Dr. Bawumia said.
“We will turn Ghana into the manufacturing hub of West Africa. Our economy will be results-oriented. We will tap into the vast reservoir of Ghanaian professionals and experts in the Diaspora.
If our soccer players have been useful in bringing Ghana back to the sports limelight, what is stopping us from using our professionals in other areas to boost our economy?”, Dr. Bawumia asked in his closing remarks.
An appeal for funds was spearheaded by Mr. Ohene Firempong (NPP DFW Chairman), Dr. Adom Tufuor (a Communications Consultant),
Mr. Charles Biney (a staunch NPP member), and the General Secretary of the NPP
Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie.
Prayers were offered to God by Dr. Prince Adom and Nurudeen Alhassan, the Imam of El Paso, Texas.
Dr. Bawumia was accompanied by the General Secretary of NPP, Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie (“Sir John”), Mr. Anthony Abayifa Karbo
(NPP National Youth Organizer), and Mr. Adjei Yeboah (Chairman, NPP USA).
Ms. Helena Mensah was the coordinator of events.
