Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has called on Ghanaians to elect him in this year’s elections, promising a transformative eight-year term marked by accountability and innovation.
Addressing supporters at the Ofie Mega Walk in Akropong on August 3, 2024, Dr Bawumia emphasized the need for new leadership with fresh ideas and integrity to propel the nation forward.
He criticized former President John Dramani Mahama’s approach, suggesting that Mahama’s bid for a single term indicates a need for more commitment to long-term governance.
Dr Bawumia outlined his vision for Ghana, focusing on digital advancements to combat corruption and streamline administrative processes.
He proposed implementing digital systems at the customs office to prevent fraud and introduce a flat duty rate. Additionally, he pledged to overhaul passport application procedures by integrating digital solutions, simplifying the process for citizens.
“We are moving Ghana into the digital age, not maintaining outdated systems,” Dr. Bawumia said. “With our new policies, passport applications will become more efficient, and customs operations will be transparent.”
He contrasted his long-term vision with Mahama’s, arguing that his commitment to an eight-year presidency would allow for a thorough evaluation of progress and accountability.
“Unlike my opponent, who seeks a shorter term with minimal accountability, I am committed to returning after my first term to ensure that we achieve our goals”, Dr Bawumia stated.
Dr Bawumia’s remarks reflect his campaign’s emphasis on technological advancement and sustained leadership, which aims to position Ghana as a modern governance and development model.
