Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has detailed his proposed policies for revitalizing Ghana’s mining sector, including plans to establish a Mining Development Bank.

In a recent Facebook post following engagements with Chiefs, youth, and stakeholders in the Jirapa, Sissala East, and Sissala West Constituencies, Bawumia emphasized that despite decades of mining activity in Ghana, the nation has not reaped the full benefits.

Bawumia’s policy proposals include creating a Mining Development Bank to bolster the sector’s growth. He also pledged to enhance the Geological Survey Department’s capabilities to conduct extensive exploration.

Additional initiatives outlined by Bawumia include ensuring 100% Ghanaian ownership of proven reserves designated for small-scale mining, setting up plant pools in mining regions to facilitate shared user facilities, decentralizing the mining licensing process to all mining districts, and promoting licensed community mining schemes to generate employment and wealth for Ghanaians.

Bawumia asserted that these measures would significantly benefit the mining sector and emphasized his belief that these goals are achievable.
