Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate for Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged preserving peace as the nation approaches its upcoming elections.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Bawumia emphasized that pursuing political power should not come at the expense of Ghanaian lives.
“The quest for political power should not be an end in itself. It should be mounted on the desire to transform lives and make Ghana our motherland, a better place for us all,” Bawumia said.
He voiced concern over some political figures’ rising use of inflammatory language, warning that such rhetoric endangers national peace.
“It is becoming increasingly worrying that some people have gained the notoriety of churning out incendiary language, threatening fire and brimstone if the good people of Ghana give the mandate to rule to a group other than theirs,” Bawumia stated.
“Whilst nobody profits from violence and chaos, it bears repeating that not a single drop of Ghanaian blood should be sacrificed for power. We are committed to a peaceful and focused campaign, and we urge all political figures to join us in this endeavour,” Bawumia reiterated.
Bawumia reaffirmed his commitment to a campaign focused on ideas and policy, promising that the NPP would adhere unwaveringly to democratic principles, ensuring a fair and just electoral process.
“Our party is determined to pitch our ideas as we have always done and to demonstrate the superiority of our ideas over and above what any other party can offer.
