The Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Redemption Congregation at Tema Community Nine, is offering free classes for 13 junior high school finalists in the church to prepare them for the June 2019, Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The candidates would receive free tuition in mathematics, social studies, integrated science and English language.
Reverend Frank Kissi, Second-Minister of the Church, told the Ghana News Agency that this was the first time and that it would be an annual event for all BECE candidates in the church.
Rev Kissi said “as part of the church’s strategic plan, the committee on education is supposed to ensure that our students who are writing BECE this year, and the years to come, will excel and do well in their exams
He added that as stakeholders, they realized that it would be prudent to give such support to the candidates to compliment the teachings they were receiving at school.
He noted that it would help them catch up on topics they were yet to tackle at school as well as those they do not understand.
According to him, interactions with the candidates revealed that a few of them have joined private classes but the rest were learning on their own due to financial constraints adding that the church wanted to give equal opportunity to all of them.
Rev. Kissi further said the Committee would organize a seminar for them in April to build their confidence, teach them the proper way to answer questions as well as encourage them to take their studies serious.
